Last weekend Jacob participated in the 48 Hour Film Festival. Tonight we attended the screening of half of the films that were made in Austin last weekend. Some of them were really, really good. Some of them were not. Tomorrow, Wednesday, there will be a repeat screening- Jacob's movie is in Group B which screens at 6 p.m. at the Regal Arbor Theater at Great Hills. The tickets are $7 at the door (and you purchase them at a table set up in the lobby).
The fun of 48HFF is that the teams are assigned a genre on Friday at 7 p.m., and must turn in their completed product at 7:30 Sunday. To make sure no one gets a jump start, there are also 3 required elements for every film: a character, a prop, and a line. This weekend's required elements were a delivery person named Zack or Zinnia, a child's block, and "That was a good one." To see how each of the filming teams incorporated the required elements was sometimes a real blast. One team in particular got VERY creative using the prop of the child's block. They became like a magic 8 ball.
I'll leave the 48HFF logo up on the top of my blog for a while- as soon as his movie can be seen online I'll let you know. The Daily Texan had an article here that mentioned his team, NYOS, by name. You can go to 48.tv and watch "Death Takes the Cake" to see the film NYOS made in 2006, and "The Smell of Betrayal" for their 2007 entry.
