Don't landfill it!

As we do our remodeling, we are very careful not to send anything to the landfill that can be reused or recycled, or.... composted! Did you know that you can compost your gypsum drywall? Gypsum drywall is a beneficial additive to your compost. It can reduce odors, absorb excess moisture, and add calcium and sulfur to the compost. It is especially beneficial in areas with very little woody compost filler and large quantities of grass. If you have a ratio of less than 30% gypsum drywall in your compost, the paper flecks from the back of the wallboard will not be troublesome. If you prefer, though, you can peel the paper backing off before crumbling or shredding the gypsum wallboard. When adding your drywall to your compost you will shred or chip it, and then mix it in. Monitor your compost weekly to assure proper moisture and aerobic decomposition activity. In 8 weeks, you'll have an excellent soil additive!

And while I was searching, I found a company in California selling gypsum additive for composting. Of course.
