Exxon sets new all-time profit record - Feb. 1, 2008
Jeff sent this link to me this morning, with the message:
I think everyone needs to see this and stop and think for a minute...... Something is VERY wrong here.
Now you have to know that my husband grew up in oil. His dad has been in oil since he graduated from Colorado State University in the early 70s. About 8 years ago Dad lost his job at a big oil company and started working for small companies. So you also have to know that we've watched Dad's company struggle to make enough profit to survive. The costs of running their business are astronomical, and sometimes they've struggled to simply pay dad a wage at all. Dad is one of the rare birds in the oil world-- he's a Granola type guy. An off the grid type guy. He has worked tirelessly to find ways to provide energy with the smallest impact on the environment necessary. We have always been proud of his involvement with oil.
But what is happening with Exxon is just wrong. Our economy is depressed, people are struggling-- and rising gas prices is one huge factor in rising prices. The war for oil is tearing our country up. Big oil lobbies our government and has a stranglehold on your life as a result. They killed the electric car, with the Big 3 automakers, and the puppets in government they control including G. W. Bush. You have lost more freedoms in the last 8 years than you even realize, and you are in danger of losing more. I have come to believe the only man who can turn this around-- and it's going to be almost impossible as this slope has become very slippery-- is Ron Paul. He's the only candidate who truly is impassioned with keeping America the Home of the Free. He is the only one who truly believes in keeping America a Sovereign nation. Ron Paul will break the stranglehold on our government by the powerful lobby groups controlling our medical care, oil, education. He's the only candidate who thinks you are smart enough to take care of yourself without the government telling you how.

I'm all for Ron Paul, theoretically.
But how can one man possibly break the stranglehold that oil has on our country. On our government? I mean, it took us years to get to this place, with lots and lots of people working hard to get us here, for better or worse. How can one man fix it?
I'm sure he'd do his best, but I think I've lost my faith in the system, really. I don't think one man or one cabinet, even, can get through the legislative walls that have been built to protect the interests at the top.

Well this is true--- it took years. But one man really messed things up in the last 8 years, and fixing it will start with one man. Have you seen the "who killed the electric car" video?
Well, Amy... you know who I support as a Republican candidate (and then, President), so I won't touch on that.
But, I will say that unlike most people's "issues" w/ Bush, mine is his connection to oil. I'm not a super-environmentalist, but it doesn't take a genius (or a super-environmentalist) to understand that we must come up with a viable, renewable, long-term energy source and not put all our eggs into a basket which will eventually disappear.
